The LHC
The LHC is the world's largest and highest-energy particle collider. It was built by the CERN between 1998 and 2008 in collaboration with over 10,000 scientists and hundreds of universities and laboratories, as well as more than 100 countries.
The experiments in the LHC
In the LHC we can find the two "general purpose detectors", namely
The ATLAS detector is located close to the injection points in the LHC ring, and the CMS detector is on the opposite side of the LHC. Within the LHC we can also find the LHCb and ALICE detectors. Though they are smaller than ATLAS and CMS, they have achieved important milestones. For example LHCb is now in the news because they have measured some anomalies in the violation of lepton flavour universality.
